My granddad was a rancher Out Wyoming wayAlthough it was hard work He had some fun they sayLike the time the Warden done showed up Without havin any good reasonI would have liked to seen his faceWhen he served sage hen out of seasonOr the time that grandpa’s head got knocked Now here’s the story on thatAlthough it seems real fun nowHe done ruined a mighty good hat.It was time to check the cattleBut his horse he could not getHe chased and chased but to no avail Cussin “Damn you horse I’ll get you yet.”They both got tired and slowed right down Grandpa mounted that dang horseAnd ol’ Buck reared up mighty fast Throwin grandpa off of courseWell that’s when everything turned real dark He don’t know what happened nextI guess he roamed for five or six hoursThat horse was truly vexed.When grandpa finally came around And knowed he had a good fallHe rent right up to that darned horse Realizin that wasn’t ol’ Buck at all.Well I bet gramps felt real foolish When he found Buck where he left him Yep, that horse was still in the corral And he was wearing a great big grin.Now let this be a good learnin To every buckarooNever take a little snortTil all your chores are through.
